Delta Star Transformers contacted LDV Consultants to perform a finite element analysis simulating seismic loading in the N2487 transformer.
Mandate
The conclusions in relation to Hydro-Québec's standards and specific technical specifications were:
The stresses in the transformer meet the requirements of the standard on permanent deformation, and the stresses at the anchors comply with the standard against overturning;
The displacements experienced during seismic loading are small in the transformer;
LDV recommended adding welds to the four (4) legs of the tank and the transformer conservator to serve as ground anchors.
